Pattern Studio for Daddy Cool
'Daddy Cool' looks at the terrace housing typology with fresh eyes; negating challenges traditionally associated with this dwelling type. The design eschews typical spatial conventions and welcomes some radical planning; the result is a joyful multi-generation family home that will facilitate (and celebrate) shared living for decades to come.
Jury Citation
The designers have worked a traditional terrace very hard through their exploration of minimalism in a playful yet sophisticated manner. As a result, Daddy Cool’s spatial planning is exploded to become a series of objects, with each object made to feel like a key piece of furniture or art. The jury applauded the story of the home’s occupants and the evolution this house will play in the family’s lives as the children grow into teenagers. Also commendable is the project’s impactful yet edited material application. The palette’s striking materials are not used across every surface, but when they are used it is extremely meaningful and to great sculptural effect.
