Award: Installation Design
Gloss Creative in collaboration with NGV triennial artist Azuma Makoto for Chadstone in partnership with NGV for Botanical Lab for Kids

The Botanical Lab saw four thousand children over two weeks stepped into the shoes of research assistant and artist, articulating that nature and art are an unbeatable playground for children.
Within an open wooden architecture, translucent boundaries and brilliant green base, children experienced wood block printing, origami, and floral illustration.

Botanical Lab for Kids is an ambitious and inclusive space that brings a sense of fun and engagement within the challenging context of a busy shopping mall. Thoughtfully crafted and through a modesty of means, it invites children’s curiosity and promotes discovery through art and design. The jury commended the installation for balancing efficiency and sustainability, while fostering a vibrant and playful atmosphere. Inspired by Japanese flower artist Azuma Makoto’s botanical explorations, Botanical Lab for Kids broadens the reach of art, design and science to the general public. It successfully seeks to elevate the role of play-based learning in an everyday life context.
